Posted on: August 27, 2011
Winnie the Pooh and his friends have been a popular choice for birthday parties of young children for many years. A. A. Milne introduced the world to Winnie the Pooh in 1926, and this book has become a classic through the years. In this guide, parents can learn how to plan a Winnie the Pooh theme party for their children.
Winnie the Pooh and his friends all live in the Hundred Acre Woods. Pooh’s friends include Tigger, Eeyore, Christopher Robin, Kanga and her baby Roo. If you have a young child who enjoys these whimsical fictional creatures this type of party maybe perfect for them.
Parents will get ideas about how to make this birthday party a truly memorable experience. From the decorations, games, activities, and food everything included is Pooh and friends related. Serving snacks out of a honey jar is sure to delight the pint-sized partygoers, and there is even an idea how to make a healthy milk of honey drink.
Coloring pages of these whimsical beloved creatures are available online and easy to print off. Coloring these pages can be a fun activity at the birthday party. Playing a movie of Pooh and his friends is sure to get some laughter from the guests. A great idea is to rent a costume of a favorite character for the day of the party, so the kids can take home a special photograph of them with their hero.
Step 1 The decorations
As we know, Winnie the Pooh and his friends all live in the Hundred Acre Woods. A clever parent could transform a living room into the cherished woods. It’s better if the weather is warm and the party can be held outside in a backyard with plenty of real trees, but that is not always possible so use large pieces of construction paper to create these trees to hang inside.
The color theme for this Winnie the Pooh theme party, is gold and of course red. Purchase a few printed balloons with the main characters on them, but for the bulk of the gold and red balloons head to the dollar store. If the party is being held outside, be sure to tie these balloons away from the trees. The sharp branches on the trees will pop the balloons.
Purchase a printed tablecloth of the characters but the other paper items should be plain. Purchasing plain plates, napkins, and cups will save money as well for the parent who is on a budget.
Print off large images of Pooh and friends and hang them on the wall. The kids will love seeing the images, and it’s a cheap way to get decorations. If you have greeting card software, create and print off party hats and a birthday banner.
Of course, having Pooh or any of the characters come to the party is a great idea. If there is a costume rental place in town, rent a costume for the day. Have the character dance, sing and play with the children, and don’t forget to take plenty of photographs.
Step 2 The Activities
From movies to coloring pages there are plenty of ideas for this special gathering. There can be balloon races, obstacle courses, or even guessing games, which will keep the little ones entertained.
There are many wonderful movies on the market today, which tell the story of Winnie the Pooh and his friends. These movies can be found in many department stores of video rental places around the United States. Playing a Pooh movie during the party is a good idea for when the kids need to sit and eat.
A fun activity is Winnie the Pooh and friends coloring pages that allow the kids to have fun and be creative. The official Disney website, along with several other web sites, has Pooh and friends pages, which are free to download. http://www.disney.go.com/magicartist/coloring/pooh/index.htmlhttp://www.yoarra.250x.com/colora.html
Online activities on the official site include fun games, activities and of course the videos. This is a great website to enjoy at the birthday party. A big screen the kids can gather around is a perfect thing, as this web site will keep them entertained during slow periods in the party. This website is kid friendly, but all parents should watch their children’s online activities. http://disney.go.com/POOH/
Playing a game of pin the tail on a character while blind folded can be a fun game. Have someone draw a large picture of the birthday child’s favorite character and hang it on the wall. If the favorite character is Pooh, kids can take turns pinning on his nose or pin the tail on Tigger. Pushpin tacks work well, but taping the items on the paper also works well and is safer.
Piñatas are another fun idea. For little kids, make sure the piñata is filled with toys and food they can safely enjoy. Keep the piñata lower and don’t blindfold the littlest children. If the Pooh fans are older than five or so, hang the piñata a bit higher and blindfold them to make it more fun.
Step 3 The Food
The food at a Winnie the Pooh party can be the typical birthday food, but to make it special we need to take some ideas from the Hundred Acres Woods. It makes the party more memorable if the party theme is carried out.
If possible, find a large pot or bowl to hold honey graham crackers, potato chips, pretzels and other crunchy snacks. Be sure to place a sign on it, which says "honey pot."
A nice trail mix that Winnie the Pooh and his Friends eat in the Hundred Acre Woods would make the little kids smile. Add sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chocolate chips, and raisins in a large bowl for the kids to enjoy. The seeds and raisins are good for the kids, and the chocolate gives them the sweetness they crave. If this party is for older kids, peanuts can be added to this trail mix.
A clever parent could add yellow food coloring and a bit of flavoring to milk to create a special drink for the kids. If the milk was mixed in the gallon container it came in, serve it right from there. Simply disguise the label with a large sticker and have it say Milk of Honey.
Parents can purchase a Winnie the Pooh cake from a local bakery or bake their own. Cupcakes are always a good idea for kids this age, as they can be eaten on the run.
